AI-4AI’s Second School Outreach: Igniting Young Minds at New Nation School!
On February 19, 2025, we had the absolute pleasure of delivering our second school outreach activity, and this time, we partnered with Mikrobot Academy to bring the experience to students from New Nation School! It was an exciting day filled with curiosity, hands-on learning, and plenty of ‘Aha!’ moments as we dived into the fascinating world of Artificial Intelligence.
A Day of AI Exploration
We welcomed 100 eager students, all between the ages of 12 and 15, who were ready to explore AI in a way they had never done before. Our session covered three key topics:
What is AI? Understanding how machines can ‘think’ and learn.
How does it work? Breaking down the magic behind AI with real-world examples.
How can you build your own AI? Showing them that AI isn’t just for tech geniuses—it’s for everyone!
Hands-On Fun: Smile or Frown? Let AI Decide!
The best part? We didn’t just talk about AI—we built AI! Using Google’s Teachable Machine, we worked together to create a smile or frown detector. Students had a blast training the AI to recognize happy and sad expressions, and a few lucky ones even got to try it out on the facilitator’s laptop. Seeing their own expressions come to life through AI was a game-changer for many of them!
What We Learned
If there’s one thing we took away from this session, it’s that students learn best by doing. The moment they started experimenting with AI, their engagement skyrocketed! But it wasn’t just the students—many of the teachers who attended were just as intrigued. Their interest in AI and its applications in education was inspiring, and they left the session wanting to learn even more.
Wrapping Up a Fun-Filled Day
The outreach event was a huge success, and we couldn’t be happier with the enthusiasm from both students and teachers. AI has the power to shape the future, and seeing these young minds light up with excitement reminded us why we do what we do!
