The African Institute for Artificial Intelligence LBG (“AI-4AI”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is a non-profit organization registered in Ghana. We are committed to protecting your personal data and ensuring that your privacy is respected when you visit our website or engage with us in any capacity. This Privacy Notice outlines how we collect, use, share, and safeguard your personal data, no matter where in the world you access our services.

1. About Us

AI4AI is dedicated to responsible and inclusive development of artificial intelligence in Africa. We are headquartered at House Number 124, Cemetery Road, North Legon, Accra, Ghana. You can contact us at legal@ai-4ai.org or by phone at +233 (0) 20 114 5766. Our Data Protection Officer is Mowbray Jones-Nelson (interim appointment pending). We are registered with the Ghana Data Protection Commission in accordance with the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).

2. The Data We Collect

When you interact with our website or services, we may collect information such as your name, email address, phone number, country of residence, organizational affiliation (if shared), your IP address, and browser type. You may also voluntarily provide additional details—for instance, when signing up for newsletters, submitting a contact form, or registering for an event.

Please note that while our content is generally designed for adult users, minors may access our website. We do not knowingly collect personal data from individuals under the age of 18. If we discover that we have inadvertently done so, we will promptly delete such data.

3. How Your Data Is Collected

We collect your information in several ways: directly from you when you complete forms, contact us by email or phone, make a donation, or register for events. We also collect data automatically through cookies and similar technologies when you browse our website. These tools help us understand usage patterns and enhance your experience.

4. Why We Process Your Data

Your personal data allows us to respond to your inquiries, process donations and event registrations, and keep you informed about our work—when you have opted in to receive updates. It also helps us improve our services and comply with our legal obligations. We rely on your consent, our legitimate interest in fulfilling our mission, and legal requirements as the basis for processing your data.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal data. However, we may share it with trusted service providers who help us manage our website, send emails, or process donations. In situations where the law requires it, we may disclose data to regulatory authorities. Where partnerships or collaborations are involved, your data will only be shared with your explicit consent.

If your data needs to be transferred outside Ghana—including to countries without equivalent data protection laws—we take necessary steps to ensure your information remains protected. This includes the use of Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission

6. International Transfers

Given the global nature of our work, your data may be processed in countries outside Ghana. Whenever this occurs, we ensure that your data receives the same level of protection it would have within Ghana by relying on approved safeguards and contractual protections.

7. How We Protect Your Data

We take data protection seriously. To prevent unauthorized access, misuse, or loss of your personal data, we have implemented technical and organizational security measures tailored to the risks associated with the data we handle.

8. How Long We Keep Your Data

We retain your personal data only for as long as it is necessary for the purposes it was collected, or to comply with applicable legal requirements. When your data is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymize it.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, request corrections, ask for your data to be deleted, restrict or object to certain types of processing, or request that your data be transferred to another organization. You also have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, you may contact us at legal@ai-4ai.org. We aim to respond within 30 days in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

10. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies to personalize your experience and to help us understand how our website is being used. You can manage or disable cookies at any time through your browser settings. For more details, refer to our Cookie Policy.
