Who We Are

AI-4AI is a non-governmental, non-profit, pan-African institute established to advance artificial intelligence literacy, governance, research, and community capacity across Africa through education, policy engagement, and ethical innovation. 

For the purposes of data protection laws, AI-4AI acts as a Data Controller in respect of personal data collected through its platforms and programmes. 

Scope of This Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice applies to personal data collected through: 

  • Our website and digital platforms; 
  • Registration for programmes, events, workshops, conferences, and mentorships; 
  • Applications, surveys, assessments, and feedback forms; 
  • Communications with AI-4AI (email, forms, or official channels); 
  • Media and documentation from AI-4AI activities.

Lawful Basis for Processing

AI-4AI processes personal data lawfully, fairly, and transparently based on one or more of the following lawful grounds under the Ghana Data Protection Act:

  • Performance of a task in the public interest or in furtherance of our non-profit mission; 
  • Performance of a contract or programme obligation; 
  • Compliance with legal or regulatory obligations. 

Purpose of Data Processing

We collect and use personal data for purposes including:

  • Communication with participants, partners, and stakeholders; 
  • Monitoring, evaluation, learning, and impact reporting; 
  • Research, policy development, and advocacy (often in aggregated or anonymised form);

AI-4AI does not sell or trade personal data.

Where personal data is transferred outside Ghana, appropriate safeguards will be applied to ensure adequate protection.  

Data Retention

Personal data is retained only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including legal, administrative, research, and reporting requirements. When no longer required, data is securely deleted or anonymised.

AI-4AI implements reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Access to personal data is limited to authorised personnel and partners with a legitimate need to know.

Under the Ghana Data Protection Act, you have the right to:

  • Request deletion of personal data where applicable;

  • Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
