Sparking Young Minds with AI at Eagles Montessori

On a bright Wednesday morning, curiosity took center stage as the school outreach team introduced the fascinating world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to students at Eagles Montessori School. From wide-eyed questions to future-ready ideas, the session was a lively mix of discovery, learning, and imagination.
As part of our ongoing outreach program to build AI literacy among young learners, this session aimed to break down complex ideas into fun, relatable concepts. We believe it's never too early to spark interest in the tools shaping our world.
Seven bright students, aged 8 to 11, joined the session. Each brought their own perspective and enthusiasm, making it a vibrant and thoughtful exchange of ideas. Their energy kept the room buzzing from start to finish.
What We Explored
🔍 What is Artificial Intelligence? - We used simple analogies to explain how AI mimics human thinking and decision-making.
📱 AI in Everyday Life - From Siri to YouTube, students identified how AI shows up in their daily routines—often without them realizing it!
🧠How AI Learns - Using the idea of watching lots of videos to learn patterns, we introduced the basics of machine learning in a playful, age-appropriate way.
The highlight of the session came when a student confidently suggested building an AI tool that could repair computers. Her idea? Use YouTube videos of people fixing devices to train the AI. This inspired a wave of creative thinking as other students chimed in with their own problem-solving ideas.
What We Learned
These young minds are already engaging with AI in their digital spaces. Their thoughtful questions and imaginative ideas reinforced the need to guide how they understand and interact with technology. Teachers in attendance echoed this, emphasizing the value of early digital literacy exposure.
This outreach session reminded us of the power of starting young. With the right tools and guidance, children's curiosity can be channelled into building tomorrow’s innovations.
